Champagne Extra Brut "Les Beguines" 2022 - La Closerie
La Closerie's "Les Béguines" Champagne is a handcrafted masterpiece by Jérôme Prévost, produced exclusively from a single 2-hectare plot located near the village of Gueux, in the Petit Montagne de Reims. The vineyard, planted mainly with Meunier with small percentages of other noble grape varieties, grows on a unique terroir of Thanetian calcareous sand, which gives the wine unparalleled complexity and minerality.
This Champagne fully expresses the essence of its terroir thanks to a natural and minimal approach to winemaking. Spontaneous fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts, and 10 months of aging in barrels of different sizes give the wine depth and structure. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, while bottling is done by hand, in total respect of artisanal tradition.
Organoleptic Profile
Color: Bright golden yellow with a fine and persistent perlage.
Aroma: Elegant notes of dried fruit, quince, candied citrus, and delicate hints of toasted bread, enriched by subtle minerality.
Taste: Perfect balance between freshness and creaminess, with a refined structure and a long finish, characterized by a vibrant saline note and a slight spicy undertone.
Producer's Philosophy
Since 1987, Jérôme Prévost has embarked on an innovative and courageous path, enhancing Meunier as the main grape variety, often considered secondary in Champagne. His philosophy is based on a deep connection with nature, sustainable agriculture, and cellar work that allows for the authentic expression of the terroir. The choice to produce only Extra Brut underscores the desire to offer a pure, intense Champagne deeply connected to the territory.
Pairings
Ideal for accompanying oysters, shellfish, tuna tartare, or white fish dishes. Also excellent with fresh cheeses and refined appetizers.
Les Béguines is not just a Champagne, but a true oenological work of art that celebrates biodiversity, tradition, and the artisanal sensibility of a producer who has made Meunier the absolute protagonist.
