The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri was characterized by a prolonged dry period from June to the end of September. However, unlike 2017, the particularly rainy winter contributed to considerably increasing the water reserves of the deep soils that distinguish the area, providing the vines with the right support for the entire production phase. Spring, which tends to be cool, favored a slight delay in budding and subsequent flowering. Summer temperatures have never been excessive, allowing for slow and regular ripening of the grapes in each vineyard with excellent levels of integrity and health. The Vermentino harvest took place between 10 and 30 September, in a gradual manner as usual; in this way the grapes initially harvested are richer in acidity and floral aromas while those harvested later show more mature berries and concentrated in citrus extracts and aromas.
Vinification Each parcel was harvested separately, according to the level of ripeness of the grapes, in order to enhance the complex territorial characteristics of each vineyard. Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were de-stemmed, gently pressed and softly pressed. The must obtained was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 16 ° C. The different lots have been carefully and regularly evaluated and assembled. Vermentino from Tenuta Guado al Tasso was bottled in January 2022. Historical Data Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometers south-west of Florence. . This appellation has a relatively short history (it was born in 1994) but boasts an international reputation as a new point of reference in the world wine scene. Tenuta Guado al Tasso covers an area of 1,000 hectares - about 320 planted with vineyards, the rest cultivated with wheat, sunflowers and olive trees - in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" for its particular shape. The Guado al Tasso vineyards are mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes, the latter cultivated with both white and black grapes. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: the constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the rigors of winter, clean the sky and keep the insolation index high. The first vintage of Vermentino produced in the Guado al Tasso estate was 1996. Tasting Notes The Vermentino of Tenuta Guado al Tasso has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. The nose expresses a beautiful aromatic intensity, there are hints of citrus, white flowers and tropical fruit. On the palate it is savory and of good persistence, with a fresh and pleasantly citrusy finish.
