The 2016 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with sporadic but abundant rainfall which allowed for the accumulation of excellent water reserves in the soil. The vegetative restart took place slightly earlier than the norm and then continued in a regular manner, accompanied by a sunny spring with temperatures and rains in the middle of the season. Summer was generally hot, but without excessive temperature peaks. The ripening of the grapes was accompanied by sunny days, low rainfall and cool nights which favored the development of aromatic substances, maintaining an excellent freshness of the grapes, an indispensable prerequisite for long-lived and elegant wines. Lavendemmia began with the Merlot on September 5th, continued with the Cabernet Francs around the middle of the month and ended with the later Cabernet Sauvignon on October 5th.

Vinification

Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were selected in two distinct moments: immediately after harvesting and subsequently destemming, to ensure that only the best ones reached the fermentation tanks. Like every harvest, the individual plots of Divigneto were divided into many small plots of harvest according to the climatic trend of the year, distinguishing them by characteristics of the grapes and vinifying them separately. Fermentation and maceration took place in controlled temperature stainless steel tanks for 15 - 20 days. After the racking operations, the wine was transferred directly to the barrique, where malolactic fermentation took place by the end of the year. In February the best vinified plots were selected and combined. Guado al Tasso was then transferred again to new French oak barrels where it remained to refine until bottling in July 2018.

Historical data

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and sometimes a small amount of Petit Verdot, to represent the elegance, complexity and structure of the Bolgheri terroir. Guado al Tasso has been produced since 1990 in vine groves located on clay-sandy soil and clayey-silty soil, with the presence of Bolgheri agglomerate (skeleton).

Tasting Notes

Guado al Tasso 2016 has an intense ruby red color. On the nose there are pleasant hints of fruit and sweet spices. There are notes of plum, blueberry jam, leather, licorice root and balsamic aromas such as mint, capable of giving excellent sensations of freshness and complexity. On the palate it is taut, persistent, accompanied by refined notes and delicate balsamic hints. A vintage, 2016, of extraordinary elegance.
