In the winter of 2019, with the exception of some rare snow episodes and infrequent precipitation, we experienced temperatures above the seasonal norm. These conditions anticipated the rebirth of vegetation, especially in the best exposed vineyards. The generally cold climate with rains starting from April until the end of May influenced flowering, reducing the quantity of berries per bunch and, consequently, limiting production. In June, we enjoyed a warm and dry period, which preceded the rains that began in mid-July. The wide temperature ranges in August and the regular thinning of the vines have preserved the integrity of the fruit. September, after a short but intense period of precipitation, saw rising temperatures and a clear climate until mid-October. This vintage was undoubtedly challenging, with a prolonged harvest and limited production, but characterized by excellent quality grapes. The harvest began on October 13th and ended on the 19th of the same month.
The selected grapes were separated from the stalks and pressed. Maceration lasted approximately 8 days, maintaining a maximum temperature of 30°C. Malolactic fermentation was completed before the end of winter. Subsequently, the wine was aged in oak barrels of various sizes for about a year.
Barbaresco 2019 has a garnet red color of notable intensity. The nose reveals complexity, with notes of berries, spices and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is velvety, harmonious and elegant, with a long and persistent finish.
