Barolo Le Coste di Monforte originates from the renowned cru of the same name in Monforte d'Alba. Piero Benevelli's winery is located in Monforte d'Alba, along the road that leads to Roddino and Serralunga d'Alba. Massimo and Denise, a couple with deep roots in their land and tied to historical traditions, manage this estate with passion and dedication. The wines they produce follow an authentic tradition, with a careful eye on natural winemaking practices. In particular, they avoid the use of selected yeasts and filtration processes. In the cellar, only necessary practices are adopted to preserve the quality of the wine, which has gained increasing notoriety in recent times. The wines created by Massimo embody authentic sincerity, enhancing the peculiarities of their terroir of origin.
Barolo Le Coste di Monforte 2020, a creation that I remember being in its sixth vintage since the MGA (Additional Geographical Mention) indication was first introduced on the label in 2015, originates in the eastern part of the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. The Le Coste vineyard benefits from various exposures, ranging from south-east to south-west. The soil is characterized by tuff and white calcareous marl. As with the other Barolos from the winery, Mosconi and Ravera, fermentation takes place with a submerged cap in steel tanks without the use of selected yeasts. The total maceration, which varies from 30 to 40 days depending on the vintage, contributes to the aromatic profile. Aging takes place in large oak barrels for about 24 months. Barolo Le Coste is characterized by being more accessible from the start, with a more open bouquet and softer tannins. A key role is played by the acidity, which is higher due to the slightly more clayey soil composition compared to the other Barolos.
