Barolo Le Coste di Monforte originates from the renowned homonymous cru of Monforte d'Alba. Piero Benevelli's winery is located in Monforte d'Alba, along the road that leads to Roddino and Serralunga d'Alba. Massimo and Denise, a couple with deep roots in their land and linked to historical traditions, manage this reality with passion and dedication. The wines they produce follow an authentic tradition, with an eye to natural winemaking practices. In particular, they avoid the use of selected yeasts and filtration processes. In the cellar, only the practices necessary to preserve the quality of the wine are adopted, which has recently gained more and more notoriety. The wines created by Massimo embody authentic sincerity, enhancing the peculiarity of the terroir of origin.

Barolo Le Coste di Monforte 2018, a creation that I remember is in its fourth vintage as the MGA indication (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva) was introduced for the first time on the label in 2015, was born in the eastern portion of the municipality of Monforte d' Sunrise. The Le Coste vineyard benefits from different exposures, ranging from south-east to south-west. The soil is characterized by tuff and white calcareous marls. As with the other Barolos in the cellar, Mosconi and Ravera, fermentation takes place with a submerged cap in steel containers without resorting to selected yeasts. The overall maceration, which varies from 30 to 40 days depending on the vintage, contributes to the aromatic profile. The refinement takes place in large oak barrels for about 24 months. Barolo Le Coste is characterized by being more accessible from the outset, with a more open bouquet and softer tannins. A key role is played by acidity, which is higher thanks to the slightly more clayey soil composition than the other Barolos.
