CLIMATE

The 2012 vintage was characterized by an early winter with generally high temperatures and by a month of February with generally cold days and abundant snowfall. After a cool spring with rainfall, starting from the month of May the climate was generally warm and rarely interrupted by rain which occurred in very limited areas. The vegetative-productive development continued on a regular basis thanks to the water reserves accumulated in the ground in the spring. During the end of August and the first days of September some rains favored the restoration of water reserves in the soil, refreshing the vines. The harvest began in the first week of September about a week earlier than the average. In general it was a vintage with a limited production in terms of quantity but with grapes characterized by an excellent balance. The harvest in the Vigna Colonnello vineyard took place on September 22nd.

VINIFICATION

Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were pressed and only 65% destemmed. The maceration, which took place in stainless steel tanks, lasted about 15 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C. The malolactic fermentation ended before the end of winter. Maturation took place in French oak barrels of different capacities for 18 months and in steel for 24 months. The wine aged 24 months in the bottle before being released on the market.

HISTORICAL DATA

From the precious one hectare vineyard in the Monforte d'Alba area. Vigna Colonnello represents the union between the two souls of Barolo and celebrates the encounter between two terroirs of choice. A wine with velvety tannins and capable of expressing the finesse and elegance derived from the Tortorian soil and the structure and power originating from the Serravallian soil.

TASTING NOTES

Vigna Colonnello has a red color with ruby reflections. On the nose, pleasant hints of rose petals, raspberry and pomegranate are combined with spicy and balsamic notes. On the palate it is intense, with sweet and enveloping tannins and a long and consistent aftertaste.
