Tasting Notes
Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore 2019 is an example of a product that places it in the category of the most structured, which in a few years will have developed its great potential. The aromas of red cherry and raspberry combine with those of rose petal and licorice , all enhanced by a hint of pepper. On the palate, it has an intermediate weight and is well structured, with flavors of red cherry and blackberry. In the mouth it expresses a remarkable sweetness, without ever weighing; it is a wine that communicates delicately, but with vigor. The tannins are persistent, ripe and very structured, but delicately blended. Its long-lasting dry finish ends with a hint of mineral.
Vintage 2019 trend
The damp and the long winter together with an early spring brought good hydration back to the soil. The resumption of the vegetative cycle took place in the normal way, bringing the budding to the end of March.
The real heat came only after flowering, rather towards the end of June, lasting for at least 10 days, thus helping the formation of the berries. The rest of the vegetative cycle was colder than normal, except for 10 days of moderate heat just before veraison. Intermittent rains during the summer have refreshed the vines and the undergrowth.
The heavy downpour of September 5 threw hail over some areas of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fortunately, none of our vineyards were affected, although the hail passed very close to the land of Baudana.
From 6 September onwards, conditions were perfect for the rest of the harvest period, with hot, dry days and refreshing nights. The vineyards that bear fruit in Valmaggiore and Barbera shed the excesses of rain, dried up in a few days and continued their march towards excellent maturity.
Barbera and Nebbiolo both benefit from these conditions as they allow for an optimal balance between fruit and acidity.
The harvest operations took place from 3 to 10 October.
