The vineyards of this famous Roero cru have low yields and are located on very steep and sandy hills, which require the vineyard to be managed "entirely by hand," without the aid of machines or tractors. It is therefore demanding work, done out of pure passion to obtain a wine of great character.
Grape variety: Nebbiolo, sub-variety Lampia
Grape origin: Valmaggiore in Vezza d’Alba (180-240 Mt. a.s.l.)
Soil: sandy and silty.
Exposure: South-West, Guyot pruning (6-8 buds / vine)
Vines / Ha: 8000: dense planting 80 cm between plants and 1.40 between rows.
Grape quantity/HA: 50-60 quintals / Ha. yield per hectare in Hl: 38-40
Year of planting: 1970-1990
Vinification: Soft pressing, maceration with skins for about 6-10 days at a maximum temperature of 28°C.
Aging: After racking, the wine is transferred to 25 Hl oak barrels where it matures until the following autumn when it is bottled.
