This bottle is part of the 170th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a blend of 195 wines selected for 12 different years. The youngest dates back to 2014, while the oldest is from 1998. The rest of about seven years in the Krug cellars gives this Edition a remarkable expression and elegance. Each of its glasses is the result of over 20 years of craftsmanship excellence.
Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition was composed around the 2014 harvest, an unpredictable year in which hot periods of dry and fresh rain alternated. The wines developed in good condition, ensuring a generous harvest. The weather contrast has preserved freshness and has resulted in a great heterogeneity within the region, emphasizing the importance of the Maison’s approach that considers each plot as its own right.
To create this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Chef de Caves tried to accentuate the varied and elegant aromatic expressions of the year with reserve wines from different plots and from 11 different vintages. The care dedicated to the vineyards and the attention given by Krug to the unique properties of each land have made it possible to obtain the great expressiveness of this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
In total, the reserve wines of the Maison’s extensive collection make up 45% of the final assembly, a contribution that makes the indispensable breadth and roundness for each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
The final composition of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée is 51% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay and 11% Meunier.
Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of a man, Joseph Krug, of creating the best Champagne possible, year after year, regardless of climatic variations. Every year, the Maison Krug pays tribute to its dream with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the most generous expression of Champagne.
