The Gauthier family is undoubtedly at the top of the Bourgueuil appellation and for two generations the company has been seducing lovers of the great wines of the Loire Valley for two generations. Located in Benais, the vineyards are planted on the most calcareous terroir in the region. These tuffaceous-limestone soils give wines of extraordinary elegance, subtle and intense with depth. Pierre Gauthier signs his first vintage in 1995, and an immense work done in the vineyard and in the cellar now bears fruit. However, the wines need to be left in the cellar for a few years to allow the Cabernet Franc tannins to refine. A monument among the estate's wines: the "Clos Nouveau". This plot, actually surrounded by stone walls, just like in Burgundy, draws its telluric strength from the chalk-tuffaceous soil. The wine is aged for 24 months in vats containing two or three wines, before being bottled without filtration. After ten years of ageing, its texture reveals the noble roots of a variety that is too often abused. A voluptuous texture is combined with subtle chalky tannins, and releases undefined aromas of flowers and graphite.
