Organic wine

The holding of Alexander Bain it is located in Tracy-sur-Loire, in the northern area of the Pouilly-Fumé controlled appellation area. Sauvignon blanc is mainly grown.
The soil is clayey-limestone, with little arable land. The plots face south-west and overlook the placid course of the Loire. The climate is continental, mitigated by the presence of the river, which favors wine cultures. In the vineyard we work according to the cycle of the seasons. The plants are followed throughout the year: pruning (late - from January to April - and done manually), dissident, topping, gluing, hoeing and manual harvest. The only treatments, based on copper, sulphur, clay and plant extracts, are aimed at counteracting the presence of cryptogamic fungi. An attempt is made to limit the use of the tractor to a minimum, which crushes the ground, pollutes the air and burns the vines; the horse is used more often and the first peelings are manual. Since 2007 the estate has received the Demeter and Ecocert certifications for organic and biodynamic agriculture.

With concern for the expression of the terroir, Bain does not add any oenological product to the grape must in the cellar. It does not correct the acidity of the wines, it does not add yeast. If necessary, apply a light sulfiting at the time of bottling. This way of working the land, the grapes and the wine is based on respect for nature and has ecological sustainability and maximum pleasure for those who taste wine as its objectives.
